How many species of birds are found on the islands of Coiba National Park?
With little anthropogenic effects on Coiba National Park, the islands of this Panamanian Archipelago provide suitable habitats for wildlife, particularly birds. However, previous bird surveys were restricted to Coiba Island, the largest of the park, leaving the avifauna in the rest of the islands poorly known. Thus, to contribute to the knowledge of the biodiversity of this park, we have been recording birds for the islands of Jicarón and Jicarita.
So far, only in Jicaron Island, we have recorded more than 100 species of birds, including hawks, king vulture, hummingbirds, owls, herons, warblers and other migratory species.
Stay tuned to find out what are the species of birds we have discovered in our expeditions to this unique world place.
